Good morning. Itâs Tuesday, May 13.

President Donald Trump on Tuesday praised Saudi Arabia and its leaders after the White House announced a commitment by the kingdom to invest $600 billion in a series of deals with the United States.
Trump also announced at an investment forum in Riyadh that he will order the removal of all U.S. sanctions against Syria, âin order to give them a chance at greatness.â
Trumpâs speech at the investment conference followed him signing a number of bilateral agreements during a state visit with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

Sen. Ron Johnson said on Monday that he doesnât support the House-drafted GOP megabill â the latest reminder of the headaches awaiting the legislation across the Capitol.
âWhat weâre doing is, weâre looking at all the programs going, âWe canât touch that, touch that, canât touch that,ââ Johnson said of the Houseâs effort.
Johnson has repeatedly warned he would oppose the bill emerging from the House if it doesnât go far enough to reduce the deficit.

Inflation was slightly lower than expected in April as President Donald Trumpâs tariffs just began hitting the slowing U.S. economy, according to a Labor Department report Tuesday.
The consumer price index, which measures the costs for a broad range of goods and services, rose a seasonally adjusted 0.2% for the month, putting the 12-month inflation rate at 2.3%, its lowest since February 2021, the Bureau of Labor Statistics said. The monthly reading was in line with the Dow Jones consensus estimate while the 12-month was a bit below the forecast for 2.4%.
Excluding volatile food and energy prices, the core CPI also increased 0.2% for the month, while the year-over-year level was 2.8%. The forecast was for 0.3% and 2.8%, respectively.

Casandra âCassieâ Ventura, the ex-girlfriend of Sean Combs, took the stand on Tuesday morning (May 13) as the star witness in the first full day of testimony in the federal trial against the hip-hop mogul better known as Diddy or Puff Daddy.
Ventura, who is now 38 years old and visibly pregnant as she testified, described a tortured, decade-long off-and-on relationship that began shortly after Combs signed her to a 10-album deal with his Bad Boy Records label when she was a 19-year-old ingénue.
During her testimony, Ventura accused him of physically and emotionally abusing her for years, and exerting control over virtually every aspect of her life. She said that she recorded hundreds of songs that were never released and busied herself at his command in the recording studio, she said, but she only released a single mixtape in 2013. Most of her time, she said, was dominated by Combsâ âfreak-offsâ or âFOsâ â drug-fueled, multi-day marathons of sex with prostitutes that he orchestrated and directed. âThe FOs became a job where there was no space to do anything else but to recover and try to feel normal again,â she said.

A small nodule was found in the prostate of former President Joe Biden during a recent physical exam, according to media reports.
The discovery ânecessitated further evaluation,â the Associated Press reported Tuesday, citing a spokesperson.
During his presidency, Biden had a âcancerousâ skin lesion removed from his chest, according to the White House.

A Democratic National Committee panel voted to void its election of David Hogg as vice chair of the Democratic Party on Monday.
The initial vote comes after mounting internal criticism of Hogg, though party officials say the vote was based on a procedural challenge made in February claiming Hogg and another official were improperly elected. The DNC will vote later this year on whether to remove Hogg.
âToday, the DNC took its first steps to remove me from my position as Vice Chair At-Large. While this vote was based on how the DNC conducted its officersâ elections, which I had nothing to do with, it is also impossible to ignore the broader context of my work to reform the party which loomed large over this vote,â Hogg said in a statement reacting to the vote.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced on Monday that he has approved a negotiating delegation to travel to Qatar on Tuesday to participate in US-led prisoner exchange talks.
The decision was announced after the embattled premier met with US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Ambassador Mike Huckabee earlier in the day and spoke over the phone with US President Donald Trump.
âI thanked President Trump for his assistance in the release of IDF soldier Edan Alexander. President Trump, for his part, reiterated his commitment to Israel and his desire to continue close cooperation with me,â Netanyahu wrote on social media.

German authorities on Tuesday banned an extremist group called the âKingdom of Germanyâ, raided multiple locations nationwide and arrested four of its leading members.
The group is part of a right-wing conspiracy theorist movement known as the âCitizens of the Reichâ (âReichsbuergerâ), which rejects the legitimacy of the modern German republic.
Among those detained was the groupâs self-proclaimed âkingâ Peter Fitzek, 59, a former chef and karate instructor. He founded the organisation, which has claimed to have about 6,000 members.
