🇨🇦 Canada Concedes
Good evening. It’s Monday, February 3.
5. NYT, NBC, NPR, and Politico Kicked Out of Pentagon Office Space... Replaced by NY Post, Breitbart, and OANN.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced a 30-day pause on swingeing tit-for-tat tariffs and said he would push ahead with a massive round of border security measures after crisis talks with President Donald Trump on Monday.
He said he was deploying new technology and personnel to the border, as well as appointing a fentanyl czar.
‘I just had a good call with President Trump,’ he posted on X.

Maine GOP Sen. Susan Collins on Monday announced she will support Tulsi Gabbard’s nomination as the director of National Intelligence, making her the latest Republican to unite behind President Donald Trump’s nominee.
Collins’ endorsement comes after Republican Texas Sen. John Cornyn endorsed Gabbard last week.
Gabbard has faced some pushback among Republicans because of her hesitancy to label former National Security Agency contractor Edward Snowden a “traitor.”

Trump administration officials are weighing executive actions to dismantle the Education Department as part of the campaign by billionaire Elon Musk and his allies to shrink federal agencies and slash the size of the government workforce.
The officials have discussed an executive order that would shut down all functions of the agency that aren’t written explicitly into statute or move certain functions to other departments, according to people familiar with the matter. The order would call for developing a legislative proposal to abolish the department, the people said. Trump’s advisers are debating the specifics of the order and the timing, the people said.
The order would be a step toward fulfilling a Trump campaign promise to eliminate the department, limit federal involvement in education and give more authority to the states. Conservatives were sharply critical of the Education Department under the Biden administration, particularly decisions to forgive student loans and to extend sex-discrimination protections in education to LGBTQ people. The conservative Heritage Foundation’s Project 2025 also called for eliminating the department.

A Secret Service agent is for the first time publicly speaking out against the agency’s diversity, equity, and inclusion policies, which he says contributed to the first assassination attempt against President Trump last summer.
A 13-year veteran of the agency who has served in an elite unit and top protective assignments, Rashid Ellis sat down for an interview with the Independent Women’s Forum, a Virginia-based conservative nonprofit.
IWF is in the process of making a documentary, titled “Qualifications, Not Quotas,” about Ellis’s experience and released an explanation of the documentary and a trailer Thursday providing a snapshot of his experience and concerns.

The Trump administration notified four major news organizations late on Friday that they would have to give up their dedicated office space at the Pentagon to make way for other outlets, including the right-wing sites Breitbart News and One America News.
In a memo, a Department of Defense spokesman, John Ullyot, said that The New York Times, NBC News, NPR and Politico had to vacate their office space by Feb. 14 to allow for “a new outlet from the same medium that has not had the unique opportunity to report as a resident member of the Pentagon press corps” for a year as part of a “new annual media rotation program.”
Mr. Ullyot said The New York Post would replace The Times as a print outlet; the conservative cable channel One America News would be swapped in for NBC News; Breitbart News would be a radio outlet instead of NPR; and the news outlet HuffPost, owned by BuzzFeed, would switch with Politico.

Mexican drug cartels are ordering their members to target U.S. Border Patrol agents with kamikaze drones and other explosives amid a crackdown at the southern border by the Trump administration.
An internal memo titled “Officer Safety Alert” cited social media posts and other sources for the warning to federal agents, the New York Post reported. Agents were reminded to be “cognizant of their surroundings” and should be wearing their ballistic armor and utilizing their long firearms.
“On February 1, 2025, the El Paso Sector Intelligence and Operations Center (EPT-IOC) received information advising that Mexican cartel leaders have authorized the deployment of drones equipped with explosives to be used against US Border Patrol agents and US military personnel currently working along the border with Mexico,” the memo, obtained by the newspaper, states.

The acting U.S. attorney in Washington, D.C. threatened legal action on Monday against anyone who “impedes” the Department of Government Efficiency’s work or “threatens” its people.
The acting U.S. attorney stepped in after DOGE chief Elon Musk and his allies faced sharp blowback for taking over operations in multiple government agencies over the last few days, including the U.S. Treasury, the General Services Administration and the Office of Personnel Management.
Together, the three departments make up the backbone of the U.S. financial system and contain sensitive payment information related to trillions of dollars in federal disbursements, as well as personal identifying information about tens of thousands of government employees.

The US Navy has released stunning images showing its incredible new drone-destroying laser weapon in action for the first time.
The HELIOS system was tested aboard the USS Preble, with photos capturing its bright beam shooting an unmanned aerial vehicle out of the sky.
HELIOS, which stands for High Laser with Integrated Optical-dazzler and Surveillance, was developed by Lockheed Martin in 2021 and delivered to the Navy a year later.
