Good morning. It’s Monday, February 17.

A Delta Air Lines plane crashed at Toronto Pearson Airport on Monday afternoon, injuring numerous passengers flying from the U.S.

The plane crash, which involved a Delta Air Lines CRJ-900 jet that had departed from Minneapolis, was first reported by CTV. The flight was identified as Delta 4819, operated by Endeavor Air, and carried 80 people.

A Mexican Senate commission has approved the entry of members of the U.S. Army’s 7th Special Forces Group (Airborne) into the country starting this week.

The Americans will come fully armed as part of a mission to train the Mexican Navy’s Infantería de Marina (marine infantry) on conventional and non-conventional types of combat.

The training takes place from Feb. 17 through March 30 at the Luis Carpizo naval facility in the state of Campeche, according to Sen. Alejandro Moreno Cardenas, president of the Mexican Senate’s Naval Ministry Commission.

The Trump administration has urged Romanian authorities to lift travel restrictions on influencer Andrew Tate and his brother, Tristan Tate, as they await trial on charges including human trafficking, sexual misconduct, and money laundering, according to a report by the Financial Times.

The 37-year-old is currently under house arrest in Romania and is awaiting trial on human trafficking charges. His brother, 36, and two Romanian women are also awaiting trial.

The brothers, who hold dual United States and United Kingdom citizenship, were arrested alongside two Romanian women in December 2022 on charges of human trafficking, sexual misconduct, and money laundering, all of which they deny. Andrew Tate also faces an additional rape charge.

European leaders are gathering in Paris for an emergency meeting on Monday, Feb. 17, to discuss security concerns following the Trump administration’s announcement that it will open negotiations with Russia to end the war in Ukraine—without European involvement. French President Emmanuel Macron will host the informal summit.

Leaders from the U.K., Germany, Italy, Poland, Spain, the Netherlands and Denmark, along with officials from the European Council, the European Commission and NATO, will attend.

European leaders quickly organized the meeting after U.S. Vice President JD Vance delivered a speech in Munich, where he criticized European leaders and confirmed that initial U.S.-Russia talks would take place in Saudi Arabia.

At least four of Mayor Eric Adams’ deputy mayors are eyeing the door in the wake of the Justice Department’s controversial move to toss Hizzoner’s historic corruption case — which critics say makes him beholden to President Trump, sources told The Post Monday.

First Deputy Mayor Maria Torres Springer, Deputy Mayor for Operations Meera Joshi, Deputy Mayor for Health and Human Services Anne Williams Isom and Deputy Mayor for Public Safety Chauncey Parker had expressed a desire to resign from the Adams administration last week, according to sources with knowledge of the situation.

Sources told The Post the administration was scrambling over the weekend to convince the four deputies to stay quiet about — or at least delay — their plans to quit as calls began to mount for Adams himself to resign amid the ongoing DOJ saga.

America’s sweetheart Tom Hanks was crucified by conservatives over his “disgusting” portrayal of a simple, Trump-supporting racist on the “Saturday Night Live” 50th anniversary special.

The two-time Academy Award winner returned to the stage Sunday night as “Doug” — a dumb, MAGA hat-wearing contestant on the recurring bit “Black Jeopardy,” where the butt of the joke is Hanks’ character and the black contestants discovering their similarities.

During the sketch, Doug, who first appeared on the comedy show in 2016, refuses to shake hands with the game show host, Darnell Hayes, played by “SNL” longtimer Kenan Thompson.

Israel killed on Monday a Hamas leader in southern Lebanon’s Sidon area, the Israeli military and a Hamas official said.

The military said Muhammad Shaheen was the head of the operations department of Hamas in Lebanon and that he had recently been involved in promoting “terrorist plots” with Iranian direction and funding from Lebanese territory against Israeli citizens.

A Hamas official confirmed Shaheen’s killing to Reuters.

Pope Francis’ respiratory infection is presenting a “complex clinical picture” that will require further hospitalization, the Vatican said Monday, as concerns grew about the increasingly frail health of the 88-year-old pontiff.

Vatican spokesman Matteo Bruni said the results of tests conducted in recent days and Monday indicate the pope is suffering from a polymicrobial respiratory tract infection that has necessitated a second change in his drug therapy since being hospitalized Friday. Scientists say polymicrobial diseases are caused by a mix of viruses, bacteria, fungi and parasites.

There was no timeframe given for his hospitalization, which at Day 4 has already sidelined Francis for longer than a 2023 hospitalization for pneumonia. Bruni said the complexity of his symptoms “will require an appropriate hospital stay.”
