👍 Support: “If they are paying their loans back, not relying on government handouts, and have no criminal convictions, then Yes, I agree that they should have the right to stay and become a U.S. citizen. ”
👍 Support: “Yes, why would we educate them, then push them out of the country. This would be a great way to actually keep the brightest and best immigrants. Not the way we have them now. ”
👎 Oppose: “I worked for a college as a Counselor but the foreign students often had more difficult issues and were referred to the Counselor instead of an Academic Advisor. Many of them came having been coached in ways to work the system, not quite illegal but certainly questionable. I also had some wonderful foreign students who deserved citizenship if that was what they wanted. A degree should not be the only measuring stick to citizenship. I also fear it would close the door to some foreign students. Their countries government would hesitate to send them knowing they could choose to stay just on the basis of a degree. Some students were still very aware of the control of their government even on our soil. Citizenship should not be a reward, it should be a choice. ”
