President Donald Trump is expected to sign an executive order Thursday to close the Education Department, fulfilling a yearslong pledge to dismantle the federal agency, the White House confirmed.
Trump will hold an event at the White House to sign the order directing Education Secretary Linda McMahon to âtake all necessary steps to facilitate the closure the Department of Education and return education authority to the States, while continuing to ensure the effective and uninterrupted delivery of services, programs, and benefits on which Americans rely.â
Formally closing the department requires an act of Congress. But even without formally shutting it down, the Trump administration could effectively make it nearly impossible for employees to carry out their work, as it has done with the U.S. Agency for International Development.

As protests against DOGE head Elon Musk spread across the country, a website called âDogequestâ has reportedly published the personal details of Tesla owners, leading to concerns about privacy and safety.
The site reveals the names, addresses and phone numbers of Tesla owners on an interactive map and uses an image of a Molotov cocktail as a cursor. The operators of the site have stated that they will only remove the information of Tesla owners who prove that they have sold their cars, according to 404 Media.
The new site comes amid a number of attacks on Tesla properties, such as arson at showrooms and service centers, seemingly in protest of Musk and his role in the administration of President Donald Trump.

As aspects of President Donald Trumpâs agenda are stymied by judges amid legal challenges, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has suggested that Congress could strip federal courts of jurisdiction.
âCongress has the authority to strip jurisdiction of the federal courts to decide these cases in the first place. The sabotaging of President Trumpâs agenda by âresistanceâ judges was predictable â why no jurisdiction-stripping bills teeâd up at the onset of this Congress?â DeSantis wrote in a Wednesday post on X.
When someone responded by asking how such a move could pass when 60 votes would be needed to push it through the Senate, DeSantis replied, âAttach it to a âmust passâ billâŠâ

Ben & Jerryâs is accusing its parent company Unilever of breaching its merger agreement by ousting the ice cream companyâs CEO for the brandâs repeated public comments on progressive issues, removing its chief executive without the boardâs approval.
Itâs the latest escalation of an increasingly ugly dispute between the brand and its conglomerate owner that began in 2021.
In an amended complaint filed Tuesday in New York, lawyers for the ice cream brand said that rules stemming from its 2000 merger âprotects Ben & Jerryâs interests by precluding the unilateral removal of its CEO,â but Unilever did just that â âremoving and replacingâ CEO David Stever by not following the proper protocols and said it was because of the brandâs continued comments on progressive issues.
