đŸ”” Iran Warns US

Good morning. It’s Sunday, June 22.

Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi warned Sunday morning of “everlasting consequences” after US President Donald Trump announced that the American military had carried out a “successful attack” on the Fordo, Natanz and Isfahan nuclear sites in Iran.

The United States “has committed a grave violation of the UN Charter, international law and the NPT [the international Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty] by attacking Iran’s peaceful nuclear installations,” Iran’s top diplomat wrote on X.

“The events this morning are outrageous and will have everlasting consequences,” Araghchi said.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) on Saturday floated the prospect of impeaching President Trump for striking Iran without explicit authorization from Congress.

It’s a shocking declaration by one of House Democrats’ most high-profile progressives at a time when most in the party are instinctively rejecting the mere mention of impeachment.

Considerable intra-party scorn has been heaped on Reps. Shri Thanedar (D-Mich.) and Al Green (D-Texas) for floating votes on impeaching Trump.

Iran’s parliament has voted to close the Strait of Hormuz, the vital shipping channel through which around 20% of the world’s daily oil flows.

The move, which could block $1 billion in oil shipments per day, is likely to send oil prices soaring.

It will come into effect pending a final decision by Iran’s Supreme Council.

US Joint Chiefs Chairman General Dan Caine and US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth on Sunday afternoon gave the full details and background on how American forces used decoys, stealth aircraft, and mega bunker buster bombs to attack three key Iranian nuclear facilities in just 25 minutes.

Hegseth said, “Iran’s nuclear ambitions have been obliterated.”

Caine explained that a larger number of aircraft than those which eventually struck Iran flew from Missouri in the direction of Iran initially, but that then the majority of the aircraft split to the West as a decoy.

A 15-ton “bunker buster” bomb was likely needed to destroy the last untouched nuclear facility in Iran, and only the US had one.

Such a powerful weapon — the largest non-nuclear bomb in the US arsenal — was needed because the target, the Fordow fuel enrichment plant, is built some 300 feet inside a mountain near the city of Qom, two hours south of Tehran.

The heavyweight explosive is known as a GBU-57A/B Massive Ordnance Penetrator and was designed by Boeing for the United States Air Force.

World leaders reacted to President Donald Trump’s announcement Saturday that the U.S. had carried out a “very successful attack” on three nuclear sites in Iran, including Fordo.

“This is an HISTORIC MOMENT FOR THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, ISRAEL, AND THE WORLD. IRAN MUST NOW AGREE TO END THIS WAR,” Trump posted on Truth Social.

Here’s how world reacted after the attack.

An Afghan asylum seeker tried to defend his rape of a 15-year-old Scottish schoolgirl by citing cultural differences and a language barrier.

Sadeq Nikzad, 29, entered the UK illegally on a small boat in 2023, and later that year subjected the teenager to a terrifying sex attack in broad daylight in Falkirk town centre.

Nikzad will serve nine years in custody followed by three years on licence, go on the sex offenders register and be deported at the end of his sentence.
