🔵 IRS Chief Fired

Good morning. It’s Friday, August 8.

President Donald Trump on Friday removed Internal Revenue Service Commissioner Billy Long and is replacing him temporarily with Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, three sources with knowledge of the matter told NBC News.

Long was only just sworn in as commissioner in June. The change also comes days after Trump’s sprawling new tariffs took effect, and a month after the president signed several tax cuts and changes to the tax code into law.

“It is a honor to serve my friend President Trump, and I am excited to take on my new role as the ambassador to Iceland. I am thrilled to answer his call to service and deeply committed to advancing his bold agenda. Exciting times ahead!” Long said in a text message to NBC News.

President Trump has secretly authorized the military to use force against Latin American drug cartels classified as foreign terrorist organizations.

The move is the most aggressive action Trump has yet taken against gangs trafficking drugs like fentanyl across the US-Mexico border, the activities of which were previously the purview of federal law enforcement.

The order, first reported Friday by the New York Times, gives US forces official permission to engage cartels on land and sea.

New York Attorney General Letitia James was hit with a pair of subpoenas as part of a grand jury probe scrutinizing a $454 million civil fraud case against President Trump, a source familiar with the investigation told The Post Friday.

Acting Albany US Attorney John Sarcone convened the grand jury to address potential deprivation of rights allegations after launching an investigation of James in coordination with the FBI this past May.

One of the subpoenas related to the civil fraud judgment won by the Empire State AG’s office against Trump, which is still under review by the First Department appellate division.

A panel of federal judges handed President Trump a major victory Friday, overturning a ruling that threatened to hold the administration in contempt over migrant flights to El Salvador earlier this year.

The DC Circuit Court of Appeals vacated Chief US District Judge James Boasberg’s April 16 order finding “probable cause” to hold executive branch officials in criminal contempt for allegedly ignoring his March 15 order to stop deportation flights to Central America.

In a split decision, appellate Judge George Katsas — a Trump appointee — said Boasberg’s decision represented an “improper use of the contempt power” since the US Supreme Court had already lifted Boasberg’s ban on the flights before the district judge ordered the feds to “purge their contempt.”

Space veteran and heroic Apollo 13 commander Jim Lovell has died at the age of 97.

Jim passed away on August 7, in Lake Forest, Illinois with NASA leading tributes for the “unforgettable astronaut”.

The proud Cleveland native was one of NASA’s most traveled astronauts as he went to space a remarkable four times.

A newly released photograph of Jeffrey Epstein, published by The Telegraph, shows the disgraced financier wearing an Israel Defense Forces (IDF) sweatshirt just months before his arrest on federal sex trafficking charges.

The image, taken in January 2019 aboard Epstein’s private jet, was provided by his longtime butler, Valdson Vieira Cotrin, and is believed to be among the last pictures taken of him while alive.

In the photograph, Epstein appears relaxed and smiling, though visibly puffy. Cotrin, who worked for Epstein in Paris for 18 years as a butler, chauffeur, and cook, said the financier was in “good spirits” at the time and was discussing plans for new investments and spending more time in France. Cotrin insists Epstein “loved life too much” to have taken his own life and was confident he could secure bail before his death.

A man who brutally beat two elderly pro-life advocates escaped jail time on Thursday after a judge sentenced him to just one year of home detention and three years of probation.

The sentence for 28-year-old Patrick Brice was handed down by Baltimore City Circuit Judge Yvette M. Bryant. Brice was convicted earlier this year after he left 73-year-old Mark Crosby and 84-year-old Richard Schaefer bloodied outside of a Planned Parenthood on May 26, 2023.

After the trial, Crosby told The Daily Wire that he was not surprised by the outcome.
