Ukraineâs government has announced the signing of the outline of a minerals deal between the war-torn country and the US.
Economy Minister Yulia Svyrydenko said the memorandum of intent paved the way for what she called an economic partnership agreement.
She said a final deal would also involve an investment fund for the reconstruction of Ukraine. US officials expressed hope that an accord could be completed by the end of next week.


The son of a sheriffâs deputy has been identified as the school shooter who killed two people and injured several more at the FSU campus with a gun heâd taken from his mom.
Phoenix Ikner, 20, can now be pictured after he was named as the mass shooter who terrorized Florida State Universityâs Tallahassee campus on Thursday afternoon â leaving two people dead and another six in hospital with varying injuries.
Officials said his mother is Leon County Sheriffâs Deputy Jessica Ikner, noting he had âaccess to one of her weapons, and that was one of the weapons that was found at the scene.â

A Chinese satellite company linked to the countryâs military is supplying Iran-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen with imagery to target US warships and international vessels in the Red Sea, according to American officials.
The Trump administration has repeatedly warned Beijing that Chang Guang Satellite Technology Co Ltd, a commercial group with ties to the Peopleâs Liberation Army, is providing the Houthis with the intelligence, according to the US officials.
âThe United States has raised our concerns privately numerous times to the Chinese government on Chang Guang Satellite Technology Co Ltdâs role in supporting the Houthis in order to get Beijing to take action,â said a senior state department official.


The Supreme Court will hear oral arguments on May 15 on the federal governmentâs request to be allowed to implement President Donald Trumpâs executive order ending birthright citizenship â the guarantee of citizenship to almost everyone born in the United States, which dates back to the post-Civil War era.
The court left in place orders by three federal judges that prohibit the government from enforcing the executive order anywhere in the country until it can hear oral arguments and rule on the Trump administrationâs request.
The 14th Amendment to the Constitution provides that â[a]ll persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside.â It was intended to overrule one of the Supreme Courtâs most infamous decisions, its 1857 ruling in Dred Scott v. Sandford, holding (by a vote of 7-2) that a Black person whose ancestors were brought to the United States and sold as enslaved persons was not entitled to any protection from the federal courts because he was not a U.S. citizen.

Conservatives are speaking out against the Trump administrationâs plans to finally enact long-expected REAL ID laws in a bid to crack down on illegal immigration.
âIf you think REAL ID is about election integrity, youâre going to be sorely disappointed. Someone has lied to you, or youâre engaged in wishful thinking. Please donât shoot the messenger,â Rep. Thomas Massie, R-Ky., wrote on X earlier this week.
Responding to Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Kristi Noemâs video announcing the May 7 REAL ID deadline, the former vice presidential candidate and Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin questioned in a lengthy post: âOr what?? Evidently, existing ID requirements for American citizens just arenât adequate now, so Big Brother is forcing us through more hoops for the ârightâ to travel within our own country.â

Palantir is taking on an increased role with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), including finding the physical location of illegal migrants who are marked for deportation, 404 Media reported.
The leak shows that Palantirâs work with ICE includes producing leads for law enforcement to find migrants to deport and keeping track of the logistics of Trumpâs mass deportation effort, and provides concrete insight into the Trump administrationâs wish to leverage data to enforce its immigration agenda.
The internal communications also show Palantir leadership preparing for a potential backlash from employees or outsiders, with them writing FAQs that can be sent to friends or family that start to ask about Palantirâs work with ICE.
