The Supreme Court on Thursday said the Trump administration must work to bring back a Maryland man who was mistakenly deported to prison in El Salvador, rejecting the administration’s emergency appeal.
The court acted in the case of Kilmar Abrego Garcia, a Salvadoran citizen who had an immigration court order preventing his deportation to his native country over fears he would face persecution from local gangs.
U.S. District Judge Paula Xinis had ordered Abrego Garcia, now being held in a notorious Salvadoran prison, returned to the United States by midnight Monday.

China openly admitted it was behind a series of cyber attacks on US infrastructure in a secret meeting with American officials, according to reports.
Members of the Chinese delegation indicated to their US counterparts in December that they had spent years targeting computer networks in electrical grids, water supplies and ports, in what appeared to be a warning against Washington providing support to Taiwan.
US officials were said to have been shocked at China admitting culpability for what it has called the “Volt Typhoon” campaign, sources told the Wall Street Journal.

U.S. ambassador to Ukraine Bridget Brink intends to resign from her post early, three sources told CBS News.

And frankly, the war has gone on for far too long,” a State Department spokesperson said in a statement. “The real issue is whether the Russians and Ukrainians are ready to do what’s necessary to end this war.”

Two planes clipped each other’s wings at Reagan National Airport on Thursday, as multiple congressmen were on a stationary aircraft and a plane that was taxiing clipped its wing. No injuries were reported from the incident.
Congressman Nick LaLota posted on X, “Serving in Congress has come with some once in a lifetime experiences… like just now while stationary on the runway at DCA, another plane just bumped into our wing. Heading back to the gate, but thankfully everyone is ok! (And Rep. Grace Meng is handing out grapes!)”
Meng made a post about the incident, writing, “While waiting on the runway to fly out of DC today, another plane clipped the wing of the plane my colleagues and I were on. Fortunately, everyone is okay & we’re heading back to New York soon. Thank you to all who reached out with your concerns!”

The Government Accountability Office is auditing the Department of Government Efficiency, which is itself responsible for reviewing other federal agencies.
On Thursday, the independent, nonpartisan agency confirmed to the Washington Examiner that it “has received requests to review actions taken by DOGE across multiple agencies.”
“The first thing GAO does as any work begins is to determine the full scope of what we will cover and the methodology to be used. Until that is done, we cannot provide any additional details or estimates on when the work will be completed,” Sarah Kaczmarek, the managing director of GAO’s Office of Public Affairs, said.

China’s President Xi Jinping has purged the number-two general in the People’s Liberation Army, in the most dramatic act of his military anti-corruption campaign and first firing of a general in that role in six decades.
General He Weidong, the junior of two vice-chairs of the six-member Central Military Commission, which is led by Xi, was removed from his post in recent weeks, according to five people familiar with the matter.
As well as his role as the PLA’s second-ranked officer, He is third in command of the Chinese military and a member of the Communist party’s politburo. His removal is the latest in a long line of officers purged from office by Xi for alleged corruption.
