🔵 Putin Meets Trump Team
Good morning. It’s Friday, April 11.

Donald Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff has met Vladimir Putin for talks in Russia – as the US president called on Moscow to “get moving” with ending the war in Ukraine.
Witkoff, who has been pressing the Kremlin to accept a truce, visited Putin in St Petersburg after earlier meeting the Russian leader’s international co-operation envoy Kirill Dmitriev.
Putin was shown on state TV greeting Witkoff at the city’s presidential library at the start of the latest discussions about the search for a peace deal on Ukraine.

The Defense Department announced it had removed the commander of Pituffik Space Base in Greenland after she distanced herself from Vice President J.D. Vance’s criticism of Denmark during his recent visit.
Vance lambasted Denmark leaders while visiting Greenland late last month, saying the Danish government had underinvested in the autonomous territory and in its security.
Just days after Vance visited Pituffik, installation commander Col. Susan Meyers sent out an email to staff saying the base did not agree with Vance’s comments, Military.com reported.

The House passed a bill aimed at ensuring only legal US citizens can vote in elections Thursday, making good on a campaign promise President Trump frequently touted during the election.
Just four Democrats joined a unanimous Republican caucus in approving the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act — or SAVE Act — which aims to enshrine into law an executive action signed by the president last month requiring proof of citizenship to cast a ballot.
Reps. Ed Case of Hawaii, Henry Cuellar of Texas, Jared Golden of Maine and Marie Gluesenkamp Perez of Washington were the only Democrats to vote in support of the bill, which passed with a final tally of 220-208.

President Donald Trump is heading to get his annual physical on Friday after declaring earlier this week that he’s “never felt better.”
The 78-year-old announced the medical appointment on his Truth Social account, writing, “I am pleased to report that my long-scheduled Annual Physical Examination will be done at Walter Reed Army Medical Center on Friday of this week.”
“I have never felt better, but nevertheless, these things must be done!” Trump added.

China on Friday retaliated against U.S. President Donald Trump’s country-specific tariffs by raising its levies on U.S. goods to 125% from 84%, the Chinese Finance Ministry said.
“Even if the U.S. continues to impose higher tariffs, it will no longer make economic sense and will become a joke in the history of world economy,” the ministry said in a statement, according to a CNBC translation.
“With tariff rates at the current level, there is no longer a market for U.S. goods imported into China,” the statement noted, adding that “if the U.S. government continues to increase tariffs on China, Beijing will ignore.”

President Trump late Thursday threatened to impose additional tariffs and potential sanctions against Mexico over a long-running water dispute related to a 1944 treaty.
“Mexico OWES Texas 1.3 million acre-feet of water under the 1944 Water Treaty, but Mexico is unfortunately violating their Treaty obligation,” Trump posted on Truth Social. “This is very unfair, and it is hurting South Texas Farmers very badly.”
“I will make sure Mexico doesn’t violate our Treaties, and doesn’t hurt our Texas Farmers,” the president continued. “Just last month, I halted water shipments to Tijuana until Mexico complies with the 1944 Water Treaty.”

Three people are dead and another was hospitalized after a small airplane crashed onto the Tri-Rail tracks near I-95 in Boca Raton on Friday, authorities said.
Around 10:20 a.m., a Cessna 310 carrying three people departed the Boca Raton Airport and was bound for Tallahassee International Airport before it crashed, the FAA said.
Michael LaSalle, the assistant chief of the Boca Raton Fire Department, confirmed that all three on board were killed. Meanwhile, another person was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries after possibly driving through the fireball from the crash.
