Good morning. Itâs Saturday, March 8.

A Syria war monitor reported on Saturday that over 530 civilians from the Alawite minority had been killed in recent days by security forces and their allies, as authorities clash with militants loyal to the former government of Bashar al-Assad.
Restoring security has been one of the most complex tasks for Syriaâs new authorities, installed after Islamist-led forces ousted Assad â himself an Alawite â in a lightning offensive in December.
They are now facing their fiercest attacks yet by members of the Assad clanâs Alawite minority and have launched a major counter-operation in the ethnic groupâs Mediterranean heartland.

Government funding expires on March 14. GOP leaders are preparing to put a continuing resolution, or CR, up for a vote on Tuesday that will freeze current spending levels until the end of the fiscal 2025 on Sept. 30.
With bipartisan congressional appropriators so far unable to come to an agreement on a topline number for a bigger funding package, the CR is viewed as a temporary fix to keep government operations running past the deadline.
