District Judge Charles Breyer did not grant a request from California officials Tuesday to immediately block President Donald Trumpâs use of troops to quell violence in Los Angeles, but Breyer did set a hearing to consider the motion.
Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA) and California Attorney General Rob Bonta asked Breyer earlier in the day to issue a temporary restraining order blocking the presidentâs use of the National Guard and Marines to act as law enforcement in Los Angeles immediately, without a formal response from the Trump administration. The California officials had asked for a response by 4 p.m. Eastern, while the Justice Department asked for 24 hours to issue a response to the motion.
In a filing in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California just before 5 p.m., Breyer granted the Justice Departmentâs request for time to respond to the California officialsâ motion for a temporary restraining order.

ABC News on Tuesday fired veteran correspondent Terry Moran â two days after his social media rant targeted President Trump adviser Stephen Miller, the company said.
Moran, 65, was suspended by the Disney-owned network on Sunday following his early-morning tirade on X in which he called Miller a âworld class hater.â
âWe are at the end of our agreement with Terry Moran and based on his recent post â which was a clear violation of ABC News policies â we have made the decision to not renew,â an ABC News spokesperson told The Post.

The U.S. and China have agreed on a âframeworkâ to implement a trade deal struck last month, pending approval from both countriesâ leaders, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick said on Tuesday.
Progress on trade peace with China, particularly if it resolves the issue of crucial Chinese rare earth minerals exports, would be a boon to an economy and markets that have struggled for months with the impact of President Trumpâs tariff program.
After a series of tit-for-tat retaliations in April, the worldâs two largest economies effectively had a trade embargo in place, with 145% U.S. tariffs crushing imports from China.

General Motors plans to invest $4 billion in three American assembly plants, including moving or increasing production of two Mexican-produced vehicles to U.S. plants.
The Detroit automaker announced the plans Tuesday, as there have been few indications of progress in trade talks between the Trump administration and Mexican leaders. Earlier this year, President Donald Trump implemented 25% tariffs on imported vehicles and 25% tariffs on many auto parts imported into the U.S.
GM said the investment will add assembly of the gas-powered Chevrolet Blazer and Chevrolet Equinox that are currently produced in Mexico to two other plants in the U.S. and convert a large idled plant in Michigan â formerly expected to build all-electric trucks â to make gas-powered SUVs and trucks in 2027.

At least 45 people were arrested as a massive anti-ICE protest in Lower Manhattan Tuesday devolved into chaos with shrieking, sign-holding demonstrators flooding the streets and throwing objects at police, according to sources.
Thousands of angry New Yorkers took to the streets near Foley Square in the shadow of City Hall to protest the Immigration and Customs Enforcement deportations ongoing in the city and throughout the country.
At least 45 demonstrators were taken into custody by the NYPD at several locations across downtown in the area of Federal Plaza, according to police sources.

Former Mayor Mike Bloomberg is endorsing Andrew Cuomoâs comeback bid for City Hall, saying the ex-governor is best equipped to run the Big Apple.
Bloomberg is backing Cuomo not only in the June 24 Democratic primary, but also in the general election, The Post confirmed â a blow to incumbent Mayor Eric Adams.
âI care deeply about the future of our city, and since leaving office, it has been difficult to watch its struggles, especially since the pandemic,â the former-three-term mayor said Tuesday.

Simone Biles apologized to Riley Gaines on Tuesday for their online spat over trans-identifying males in womenâs sports, the Olympic gymnast adding that she believes the current womenâs sports system is âflawed.â
The two athletes clashed on Friday when Biles attacked Gaines seemingly out of the blue, calling the former University of Kentucky swimmer a âsore loserâ and telling her to âbully someone your own size, which would ironically be a male.â
âI wanted to follow up from my last tweets,â Biles posted Tuesday on X. âIâve always believed competitive equity & inclusivity are both essential in sport. The current system doesnât adequately balance these important principles, which often leads to frustration and heated exchanges, and it didnât help for me to get personal with Riley, which I apologize for.â
