šŸ”µ Trump Militarizes Border

Good evening. Itā€™s Friday, April 11.

President Trump authorized the military to take control of federal land stretching across three states at the southern border to assist in implementing his crack down on immigration.

The president directed the secretaries of Defense, Interior, Agriculture and Homeland Security, in a Friday evening memorandum dubbed ā€œMilitary Mission for Sealing the Southern Border of the United States and Repelling Invasions,ā€ to provide the Pentagon with jurisdiction of federal lands including the Roosevelt Reservation, which spans across California, Arizona and New Mexico.

ā€œOur southern border is under attack from a variety of threats,ā€ Trump said in a presidential memorandum released Friday evening. ā€œThe complexity of the current situation requires that our military take a more direct role in securing our southern border than in the recent past.ā€

A Pennsylvania man has been federally charged with making threats to assault and assassinate President Donald Trump, other US officials and US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents, according to the US Department of Justice.

Shawn Monper, 32, who was arrested on Wednesday, lives in Butler, Pennsylvania, where the president was shot during a campaign rally last July.

ā€œI want to applaud the outstanding and courageous investigative work of the FBI and the Butler Township Police Department, who thankfully identified and apprehended this individual before he could carry out his threats against President Trumpā€™s life and the lives of other innocent Americans,ā€ Attorney General Pamela Bondi said in a statement on Friday.

A Louisiana immigration judge ruled Friday that activist Mahmoud Khalil can be deported.

Khalil, who as a Columbia University graduate student led pro-Palestinian protests there last year, was detained last month after Secretary of State Marco Rubio determined that Khalil had engaged in ā€œantisemitic protests and disruptive activities, which foster a hostile environment for Jewish students in the U.S.ā€

In an undated 2-page memo submitted to the court, Rubio detailed that on March 7 he got information about Khalil from the Department of Homeland Security and as a result he determined that allowing Khalil to remain in the country would undermine a U.S. foreign policy goal of combating antisemitism around the world.

A bombshell report from the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) revealed that migrants on the federal governmentā€™s ā€œTerrorist Watch Listā€ were able to secure Medicaid after being released into the United States by former President Joe Bidenā€™s administration.

According to DOGE officials, about 6,300 of Bidenā€™s migrants ā€” paroled into the U.S. interior with no immigration status ā€” were either on the Terrorist Watch List or had criminal records and yet were still rewarded work permits and Social Security numbers.

The DOGE report found that 905 of the migrants, including four on the Terrorist Watch List, had been collecting Medicaid benefits totaling $276,000 in American taxpayer dollars.

Ukraine could be divided ā€˜almost like Berlin after World War Twoā€™ as part of a peace deal, President Trumpā€™s envoy to the country has said.

General Keith Kellogg suggested Western troops could adopt zones of control as part of a ā€˜reassurance forceā€™, while the Russians would occupy the east.

Ukrainian forces would then hold an 18-mile wide demilitarised zone between them.

Five major law firms reached agreements with the White House to provide $600 million in pro bono work to causes supported by President Donald Trump, who accused the firms of weaponizing the legal system against him and engaging in diversity, equity, and inclusion hiring practices.

Cadwalader, Wickersham, & Taft agreed to provide $100 million in free legal work, while Kirkland & Eillis, Latham & Watkins, A&O Shearman, and Simpson Thacher & Bartlett each agreed to provide $125 million in pro-bono work.

ā€œPresident Trump and his Administration have entered into an agreement with these long established firms, which have affirmed their strong commitment to ending the Weaponization of the Justice System and the Legal Profession,ā€ the White House said in a statement. ā€œThe President continues to fulfill his promise to the American People that the Age of Partisan Lawfare in America is OVER.ā€

President Trump said on Friday that the first physical examination of his second term went well, and overall he feels heā€™s in ā€œvery good shape.ā€

The president told reporters on board Air Force One while en route to his home in West Palm Beach Friday evening that the yearly presidential physical at Walter Reed Medical Center showed he has a ā€œgood heart, a good soul,ā€ and ā€œoverall, I think Iā€™m in very ā€“ I felt I was in very good shape.ā€

He also took a cognitive test.

Erik and Lyle Menendezā€™s resentencing hearings can continue, a Los Angeles judge ruled Friday ā€“bringing the brothers a step closer to freedom after 30 years behind bars.

Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Michael Jesic shot down the new district attorneyā€™s bid to withdraw the resentencing request in a major victory for the pair, who were convicted of murdering their parents, Jose and Kitty Menendez, in their Beverly Hills home in 1989.

ā€œEverything you argued today is absolutely fair game for the resentencing hearing next Thursday,ā€ Jesic said.
