🔵 Trump Pays Illegals
Good morning. It’s Monday, May 5.

The Trump administration has started paying illegal migrants to $1,000 each to “self-deport” from the US, and the Department of Homeland Security said it will save taxpayers up to $1 million per family.
Immigrants can avoid arrest by federal immigration agents if they choose to use the Trump administration’s CBP Home app.
The DHS will pay for commercial flights out of the US, and then send cash once they confirm they’ve left.

Israel has approved a new plan to drastically ramp up its military offensive against Hamas — including seizing the whole of Gaza and holding its territories, officials said Monday.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s security cabinet approved the new war plans in an early morning vote just hours after the Israeli military chief said the army was calling up tens of thousands of reserve soldiers in a bid to defeat the terrorist group.
The plan would be gradual and take months, and involves powerful strikes against Hamas targets.

The Commanders are turning to the commander-in-chief to make a major announcement on Monday.
President Donald Trump will announce on Monday that the NFL draft is headed to Washington, D.C., in 2027, Axios reported.
The announcement will be made with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell and Commanders owner Josh Harris on hand at the White House, with the plan being for the three-day event to be held at the National Mall.

Former Vice President Mike Pence said Sunday while receiving the John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Award that January 6, 2021, “became a triumph of freedom” because Congress returned to do its constitutional duty after the attack on the Capitol.
“Our institutions held that day, not because of any one person, but because leaders in both political parties, Republicans and Democrats, did their duties,” the former vice president said while receiving the award for putting his life and career on the line in rejecting President Donald Trump’s pressure to overturn the 2020 election. “So I came tonight to give credit where credit is due, but also to say in these divided times, in these anxious days, I know in my heart that we will find our way forward as one nation.”
Pence refused when Trump pressured him to overturn the results of the 2020 election, fraying the relationship between the two men. Pence was presiding as Congress counted Electoral College votes to certify Joe Biden’s victory when Trump supporters stormed the Capitol on January 6, 2021. The vice president, his wife, Karen; and his daughter, Charlotte, remained in the Capitol while police beat back the rioters, and Pence later oversaw the election’s certification.

The U.S. Treasury Department and the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) discovered that hundreds of millions of dollars in improper payment requests were identified after going live with its first automated payment system last week.
In fact, the system found $334 million in improper payment requests that were flagged because of missing budget codes, invalid budget codes and budget codes without authorization.
DOGE, which is led by billionaire Elon Musk, announced the discovery in a post on X.

President Donald Trump announced on May 4 that he was authorizing his administration to impose a 100 percent tariff on movies produced outside of the United States.
In a Truth Social post, Trump said the Department of Commerce and the U.S. Trade Representative would immediately start to process the implementation of the levy on all movies “produced in foreign lands.”
Trump said the move was necessary to protect the once globally dominant U.S. movie industry, as he noted that some countries have been offering incentives to attract American filmmakers and studios overseas.

A surprising shift is underway at the bottom of the world. After decades of contributing to rising sea levels, Antarctica’s massive ice sheet has started growing again — at least for now.
A study published this week in Science China Earth Sciences finds that the Antarctic Ice Sheet (AIS) experienced a record-breaking mass gain between 2021 and 2023, largely due to anomalous increases in precipitation. The rebound is especially significant in East Antarctica, where four major glacier basins had previously shown signs of destabilization.
Satellite data shows ice sheet mass increase
Researchers from Tongji University and other institutions analyzed satellite gravimetry data from the GRACE and GRACE-FO missions, which measure variations in Earth’s gravity to detect changes in ice mass.
