🔵 Trump Picks Jeanine Pirro

Good evening. It’s Thursday, May 8.

President Donald Trump has appointed Fox News’s Jeanine Pirro as the interim U.S. attorney for Washington, D.C.

Earlier on Thursday, Trump conceded to reporters that his previous nomination for the post, Ed Martin, “wasn’t getting the support from people that I thought” after opposition in the Senate. He’s now appointing Pirro as his replacement.

“I am pleased to announce that Judge Jeanine Pirro will be appointed interim United States Attorney for the District of Columbia,” Trump announced in a Truth Social post. “Jeanine was Assistant District Attorney for Westchester County, New York, and then went on to serve as County Judge, and District Attorney, where she was the first woman ever to be elected to those positions.”

Newly elected Pope Leo XIV spent years amplifying criticism of President Trump’s policies on social media — with the Catholic Church’s first American leader taking particular aim at the Republican’s hard-line immigration stance.

Leo XIV, until Thursday known as Robert Francis Prevost, 69, shared or retweeted the opinions of colleagues using his verified account @drprevost on X, formerly known as Twitter.

His final X post before being elected by the Conclave in the Sistine Chapel was a retweet of a message from Philadelphia-based Catholic commentator Rocco Palmo, who on April 14 slammed Trump’s partnership with El Salvador’s President Nayib Bukele on deportation of illegal migrants.

President Donald Trump asked House leadership to consider an increase in the top tax rate for those making millions of dollars a year, a proposition some Republicans are wary of as they look to reach significant slashes in spending to pay for an extension of the tax cuts.

A source familiar with the president’s thinking told the Washington Examiner that Trump is considering allowing the rate on those making $2.5 million or more to revert from 37% to the pre-2017 39.6%.

“This will help pay for massive middle and working-class tax cuts and protect Medicaid,” the source stated.

Spain’s Deputy PM was targeted by a man brandishing knives in broad daylight – before cops tasered and arrested the suspect.

Yolanda Díaz was targeted in a horror attack after a man assaulted her two bodyguards with a pair of knives.

The assault took place near the Ateneo Theatre on Prado Street in Madrid at around 12pm on May 8, according to local news outlet Los Replicantes.

Former President Joe Biden and former first lady Jill Biden are weighing a $30 million tell-all book deal that would likely include details from the diary Jill kept during her time at the White House, the Daily Mail reported.

“She could write a very explosive book if she wanted to,” a former White House aide told the outlet.

The joint book deal is contingent on Jill, whom experts say could be worth $15 million on her own, according to the report. However, Jill would likely be required to reveal details surrounding her husband’s declining mental health, as well as his disastrous debate against President Donald Trump and his decision to leave the 2024 race — which could be a “holdup,” according to the report.

President Donald Trump said he would end a program that provides billions to extend internet access in underserved communities, casting it as unfairly providing grants on the basis of race.

“I have spoken with my wonderful Secretary of Commerce, Howard Lutnick, and we agree that the Biden/Harris so-called “Digital Equity Act” is totally UNCONSTITUTIONAL. No more woke handouts based on race!,” Trump said in a social-media post Thursday, referring to the law approved under the administration of his predecessor, former President Joe Biden.

“The Digital Equity Program is a RACIST and ILLEGAL $2.5 BILLION DOLLAR giveaway. I am ending this IMMEDIATELY, and saving Taxpayers BILLIONS OF DOLLARS!,” he added.

Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s 2024 running mate, Nicole Shanahan, said late Wednesday that someone is “controlling” his decisions after President Trump named physician-turned-wellness influencer Casey Means as his new surgeon general nominee.

In a post on the social platform X, Shanahan called the announcement “strange,” adding that she was “promised” neither Casey Means nor Calley Means would serve at HHS or be appointed to any post if Shanahan supported Kennedy’s confirmation for the Cabinet post.

Calley Means is a special government employee at the HHS, and the siblings are high-profile proponents of Kennedy’s “Make America Healthy Again” agenda.
